PARTY TIPS – THE MUSIC

Music is an often overlooked element in planning a party, but does it really make a difference?

Let me give you my humble opinion…..

ABSOLUTELY

I’ve lost count of the parties and functions we have catered where the music was forgotten or overlooked, or just drowned out. Even if you have some other type of entertainment, background music helps set the atmosphere for the event and puts everyone in a good mood.

What music should you play?

Some things to consider include:

      • Age range of your guests – are they kids? teenagers? an older crowd or a mix? Simply putting on Top 40 music may not be appropriate for every crowd.
      • The occasion – Party playlists may be great for Big Birthday Bashes, but mellow acoustic music or some golden oldies might be better for a laid back house warming.
      • Do you have a theme? – Decade themes are always fun and era relevant music can really add to the atmosphere.
      • What people will actually enjoy – you might love ancient Gregorian chanting or Swedish Death Metal, but your guests might not. A variety of new and old music is always a safe bet – Chart toppers mixed with some classics everybody loves means there will be something for everyone. People tend to be more at ease hearing music they are familiar with.
      • Make sure your playlist is not dominated by one artist – diversity is key!
      • Check your playlist before the event – especially if you are using someone else’s music, nothing brings down the mood like bad music
      • Consider volume – even the most happening party has a point where the music goes from pumping your guests up to drowning them out. No one likes having to yell to have a conversation. Test how well you can talk at various points in your venue and remember it will be even louder when everyone gets there. Keeping the volume at a reasonable level will also keep you neighbours happy.

    KARAOKE

I have to add a small tip about Karaoke at a party –

MY TIP – BE VERY VERY WARY

It may seem like a great idea at the time, but usually it’s only a few fuelled by liquid courage that will go for the  microphone – and they end up killing the party vibe.

There is nothing that sounds worse and that kills a party quicker than drunken OFF singing.

    I hope this helps,

    MARCO
